Family Stateroom vs Triple or Quad Cabin

I received call from one lady who was interested in Family Oceanview stateroom on the Allure of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International Cruise Line. She was surprised by price I presented – she found something more affordable on the Internet. I checked travel agent’s portal for Royal Caribbean International – yes, my price was right!

Finally, I understood she called regular stateroom for three known as ‘triple’ family cabin! That is why I decided to write this post and explain the difference between the real family stateroom and regular cabin for triple and quad occupancy.

OK, let’s start with the basics. Around 10 years ago Royal Caribbean International came with idea of Family Stateroom. It is great! Rooms are bigger – in this particular case the difference is 89 square feet – 50% more! This is critical for families with small kids: enough space to move around and put crib. And, of course, more space means more costly but …

People who have been on the Oasis class ships Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas – know what I am talking about. Staterooms are just right to relax and sleep but if you place toddler there… If your toddler is interested in different objects around and doesn’t have enough space to run and jump – be careful! My suggestion is to spend more time in Babies and Tots programs.

So, Family Staterooms are designed to make perfect vacation for everybody in your family with enough space and privacy. Yes, privacy is a big concern for families with bigger kids when everyone is in the same stateroom: triple or quod. Some families prefer to book to staterooms next to each other or adjoining to avoid any problems with privacy.

In Family Staterooms on Royal Caribbean International kids have their own inside cabin – ‘cabin in the cabin.’ Those cabins have Pullman’s beds and may accommodate up to 4 people.

The Family Staterooms came in 3 types: interior, oceanview, and oceanview with balcony. They have special occupancy requirements – you have to have 5 people to book (maximum – 6 people.) Occupancy requirements are waved when is too close to departure. So, everyone can book a Family Stateroom.

Prices on the family staterooms are competitive and often are listed in the Price Drop list – you can re-price it before the final payment.
